PEORIA, Ill. — Tazewell County is reporting an additional death related to COVID-19, a man in his 90’s.
The man did not live in a long term care facility before the diagnosis, but was a part of an outbreak.
Peoria City/County Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson said 81% of Tri-County cases are considered recovered, 10% are at home isolating, and 3% are hospitalized.
The Tri-County reported 279 total confirmed cases to date.
“Peoria has 190 cases, Tazewell County has 70, and Woodford County has 19,” Hendrickson said.
There are 5 ICU beds currently in use, and 19 non-ICU beds are in use for COVID-19 patients and those under investigation.
Hair salons and barber shops can open up Friday with some restrictions.
Owner of Five Senses Spa, Salon, and Barber Shop, Paola Hinton, said the reopening will cost a lot of money.
“With the related PPE, extra sanitation, instillation of partitions, and all of this is being done while no revenue is being made,” Hinton said.
Hinton said appointments can be booked online and they are introducing tele-beauty.
“Where it is a face to face consultation over the phone, things that are going to make any guest feel comfortable as they move forward,” Hinton said.
Going to the salon or spa for an appointment will look different than normal.
“There are going to be new check in procedures, temperature checks, and safety waivers. And, employees are going to be offered various PPE options to be able to wear such as face shields, and gloves, and elevated sanitation practices,” Hinton said.
Emily Cahill, the Executive Director for the Peoria Park District, said the Peoria Zoo will have a soft opening on Friday for members, then Saturday for everyone. Tickets must be purchased online and face coverings will be required.
“Think of the zoo now as a movie theater experience. People can either register for a 10:00 a.m. to a 1:00 p.m. slot or a 1:00 p.m. to a 4:00 p.m. slot,” Cahill said.
Indoor exhibits will be closed and there will not be concessions open the first week.
Cahill said that beginning Friday golf operations will be able to expand.
“So the golf learning center will open to the community and we’re very excited about that,” Cahill said. “We’ll also be able to expand our tee-time availability. So, we’ll be back to foursomes, back to the way people know and love playing golf.”
One exception is that only one person at a time will be allowed to ride in a golf cart unless you live with who you are playing with.
