CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia. – Police in an Iowa community say a teen has been charged with the death of a teen from Peoria last year.
Our news partner 25 News, through sister station KCRG in Cedar Rapids, says Marshawn Jackson, 19, has been arrested on a charge of First-Degree Murder.
Police say Tyliyah Whitis, 15, was found dead in a vehicle that crashed into a Cedar Rapids apartment complex in late-July, 2021. A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Jackson was already in jail on an unrelated case at the time he was charged. He also faces charges of Intimidation with a Weapon, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
He’s jailed on $1 million bond in Linn County, Iowa.
