PEORIA, Ill. – The Flood Warning along the Illinois River near Peoria will continue until further notice.
As of Friday morning, the National Weather Service reported river at 27.89 feet; just over 10 feet above flood stage.
As the flood level of the Illinois River near Peoria continues to rise, citizens should be on the lookout for road closures on the Peoria riverfront.
According to Peoria Public Works, Water Street was closed Thursday evening to vehicular traffic from Hamilton to Main Street. A second closure was announced Friday morning in the 300 block of SW Water Street with barricades installed at Liberty and Harrison Streets.

Meanwhile, businesses on Water Street remain open.
Sidewalks are open to foot traffic according to Alex Williams of Peoria Public Works. She said Peoria residents and visitors can continue to visit restaurants and businesses along Water Street, as most operations are continuing business per usual and open for customers.
“Those who plan to attend the Peoria Riverfront Market this weekend should note that market vendors are relocating to the nearby Caterpillar parking lot, in the 100 Block of Hamilton Street, due to the continued threat of flooding.” said Williams.
The hours of operation will remain the same on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon.
