PEORIA, Ill. — 83.7% of tri-county coronavirus cases have recovered since testing began.
This is according to Peoria City/County Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson, who said Thursday’s total COVID-19 case count was up to 252.
Peoria County had 169, Tazewell had 65, and Woodford’s total stood at 18. There were no newly-reported deaths, keeping the toll at 11.
The count of local ICU beds in use for COVID-19 was at five, the lowest number since the pandemic began.
One of those cases was a suspected case, while the other four were confirmed cases.
Acting Director of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Alicia Tate-Nadeau was on-hand to announce the new community-based testing site, scheduled to open Saturday in the Civic Center parking area on Fulton and Monroe.
“This facility is going to be unique in that it will be able to accommodate both a walk-up and drive-thru service,” she said.
“Testing is critical for many reasons, and we are expanding our ability each day through efforts like the new community-based testing site here in Peoria.”
The site marks the tenth such facility in the state.
It will at first be able to administer 250 tests per day, but Tate-Nadeau said she was working with the federal government to acquire more tests.
Like the Heartland Health sites in the area, the community-based site will test both asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals, Tate-Nadeau said.
