SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – For a third day in a row, state COVID-19 numbers on Sunday went down.
1,734 was the reported number, down from Friday’s 2,432 and Saturday’s 2,088.
There were 51 newly-reported deaths.
The statewide rolling seven-day positivity rate remained at 15%.
“That’s likely becoming a better indicator of the true infection among the general public than it was when testing was far more limited,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said, regarding the rolling positivity rate.
20,295 specimens were taken in the 24-hour reporting period at labs across the state.
Pritzker said in just the last two weeks, the state has nearly doubled its original goal of 10,000 tests per day.
“Having the ability to know whether or not you currently have the virus provides a comfort in a world with so many unknowns,” he said.
The state’s total number of cases since testing began went up to 94,191.
