CHICAGO, Ill. — Dr. Ngozi Ezike with the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 2,641 new cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including 138 more deaths.
Illinois’ total number of confirmed cases has risen to 70,873, with 3,111 total lives lost due to the virus.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker said the number of unemployment cases is higher now than the great recession.
A new call center is up and running according to the governor.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security computer systems have been updated as well.
IDES is preparing to process claims for 1099 workers beginning Monday.
Pritzker said that Illinois was the first state to implement an extra $600 in support for families.
Before applying for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), residents must file for unemployment first and be denied.
