DES MOINES, Iowa — UnityPoint Health stands ready to provide emergency care.
UnityPoint Health asks patients that are experiencing symptoms of cardiac arrest or stroke, to call 911 or come to the emergency room.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, medical professionals have asked the public to stay home. But, an exception would be when you need immediate emergency care.
Symptoms of a heart attack include:
Chest Pain
Difficulty Breathing
Discomfort in chest, arms, back, neck shoulder or jaw
Symptoms of a stroke include:
Weakness, numbness or loss of movement in your face, arm, or leg, especially if its only on one side
Trouble speaking, understanding others or confusion
Loss of balance
“In life-threatening medical emergencies like these, it’s okay to leave home,” said UnityPoint Health Chief Medical Officer Dan Allen, MD.
Allen added that UnityPoint’s emergency departments are designed to keep COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients in separate areas, allowing medical personnel to provide care to patients in all situations.
