CHICAGO, Ill. — Gov. J.B. Pritzker has addressed the extension of his stay-at-home order and the subsequent lawsuit filed.
The judge’s ruling for 109th District lawmaker’s suit against the governor would only apply to the person who filed it.
“It only applies to one person because it was only ever about one person. This was a cheap, political stunt, designed so the representative can see his name in headlines,” Pritzker said, referring to Rep. Darren Bailey.
“For those unfamiliar, the 109th District happens to have among the lowest hospital bed availability and ventilators in the state, making it uniquely ill-equipped to respond to a surge in cases.
“The district is also home to the county experiencing Illinois’s highest death rate per capita from COVID-19.”
Pritzker said the state was appealing immediately.
Social distancing, wearing masks, and keeping non-essential businesses closed is important during this time, according to Pritzker.
“We will not let one irresponsible state representative deter us,” Pritzker said.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,219 new positive cases and 144 new deaths.
