PEORIA, Ill. – COVID-19 is being blamed for the cancellation of a big annual show that was to be at the Peoria Civic Center next month.
The Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says the Mid-West Truckers Association’s Mid-West Truck and Trailer Show, scheduled for February 2 through 5, has been cancelled.
The Association says the health of its members and what it was hearing from them made them feel the canceling was the right thing.
“The general concern expressed by potential attendees and exhibitors means canceling the Truck & Trailer Show is the right decision,” said said Don Schaefer, Executive Vice President, Mid-West Truckers Association, in a news release. “We look forward to returning to Peoria on February 3 and 4, 2023 for next year’s event.”
Meanwhile, there’s another COVID-related aspect that caused a problem for the snow.
“… meeting planners have expressed difficulties hosting due to recent issues,” said J.D. Dalfonso, President/CEO, Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “When product can’t reach Peoria due to global supply chain issues, coupled with a higher case rate for COVID, this created a perfect storm to keep a premier partner from returning to the Peoria area in 2022,”
The next scheduled big convention for Peoria is the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association Convention, scheduled to start January 18th at the Civic Center.
