PEORIA, Ill. — Illinois State Police have changed up the trooper uniform due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Troopers have switched out their standard hats and ties for personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves.
In a statement, Illinois State Police officials said, “Items that cannot easily be washed and disinfected are mediums that can accumulate and spread COVID-19, therefore to minimize the potential exposure of uniform items, ISP officers will not wear the ready-tied tie or winter Montana Peak hat during community caretaking or enforcement activities until further notice.”
Extensive efforts were made to ensure that troopers were trained to use PPE properly for their safety, as well as safety for the public.
“Staying home is critical to reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. The ISP will continue working with local law enforcement to enforce this order; adhering to the order will save lives and it is the responsibility of every Illinoisan to do their part.”
