PEORIA, Ill. — A Peoria Police officer was hospitalized with minor injuries after an apparent hit-and-run in the city’s North Valley early Thursday morning.
Peoria Public Information Officer Semone Roth confirms the accident happened near the corner of NE Jefferson and Spring Street around 1:30 a.m.
Roth says the car that hit the police vehicle was found abandoned half a block away. Police are investigating.
A witness on scene told news partner 25 News the police car was hit by a driver speeding down Jefferson. She said the driver also hit a car parked on the side of the road.
Firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” on the vehicle so paramedics could get to the officer. The police car was significantly damaged on the driver’s side.
In October, a Peoria Public Schools bus was hit by a speeding driver at the corner of NE Jefferson and Bryan Street less than a mile away. On November 19th, a fatal two-car crash occurred at the same intersection.
