PEORIA, Ill. – A suspect wanted in connection to a weekend altercation has ended in an apparent suicide.
It began at 7 a.m. Sunday, after a report of a man shooting a gun at a house at 2100 N. Underhill in Peoria.
Also that day, the man allegedly pistol whipped a female at that same address and threatened to kill her and himself.
Police say 25-year-old Dolmokio Eckwood fled the area and was sought after as armed and dangerous.
Around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, police located Eckwood inside a residence in the 1500 block of NE Glendale.
Peoria Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said officers surrounded the residence and established communication with Eckwood immediately.
According to Dotson, during the nearly-four-hour negotiation, Eckwood threatened suicide with a gun.
Later, a gunshot was heard from inside the residence.
“Officers breached the door to the residence in order to utilize a robot to search inside,” according to Dotson.
Eckwood was found inside the residence and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
There was no gunfire by police.
An autopsy was scheduled.
