SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 461 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois. Seven new deaths are also being reported, including the death of an incarcerated man from Stateville Correctional Center.
The Stateville Correctional Center now has 12 additional men hospitalized, including several requiring ventilators. In addition, 77 who are incarcerated and 11 staff are being isolated after experiencing symptoms.
Correctional centers with a confirmed case are placed on lockdown, which means there is no movement around the facility except for medical care. Incarcerated individuals who show symptoms are being tested.
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 5,057 cases, including 73 deaths, in 52 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to 99 years.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker said his administration was sending new PPE shipments to 155 different hospitals around Illinois, including 36 sites around Peoria.
He said the shipments, in total, doled out over 700,000 N95 masks, over 930,000 surgical masks, 108,000 gowns, 887,000 gloves, 32,300 safety glasses, and almost 50,000 face shields.
Additionally, Pritzker said Monday and Tuesday the state would be strategically sending additional PPEs to health departments around the state, including the Peoria City/County Health Department.
