ELMWOOD, Ill. – The law enforcement community showed up in force last (Friday) night for a Peoria County Jail employee who lost his life due to COVID-19.
Cameron Passie — a native of Elmwood — died last Sunday, just days after being sent home from work after testing positive for COVID-19, part of a continued outbreak of cases at the jail.
“What Cam has demonstrated – everything I’ve preached for for years – is about how to treat people with dignity and respect,” said Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell, to our news partner 25 News.
Asbell says his friend had a great sense of humor and loved to hunt and fish.
“Most importantly, he really loved his profession,” Asbell told 25 News. “His goal was to be on the street some day to be a police officer, but when he got into the jail he found out he was really good at it.”
A funeral service for Passie is Saturday.
