PEORIA, Ill. — If you’re working from home due to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s “Shelter in Place” order, your work computer and your network could be at risk.
Dave Johnson, with Pearl Technologies in Peoria, said with so many people transitioning to working from home, now is not the time to be clicking on websites and links on social media while you work.
Johnson told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, scammers are using social engineering to play on your fears to get your personal information.
“For COVID-19 honestly, any information you need you can go find directly by going to the correct website. So, cdc.gov, who.int (as well as trusted media sources),” Johnson said.
As the nation continues to deal with the coronvirus outbreak, hackers are using things like the toilet paper shortage to get you to click.
“If you’re on your work computer, and you’re doing all this stuff instead of actually doing your work, you could be infecting your entire work network,” Johnson said.
Johnson said to protect your system when working from home, you should change the password on your router, using a password with at least 14 characters to make it more secure.
