CHICAGO — Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Thursday three more people in Illinois have died from COVID-19.
One of the three was a Florida woman visiting Sangamon County.
The other two deaths were in Cook County and Will County.
That brought the state’s death toll to four.
“These moments will not get any easier. Nor should they,” he said.
“We are fighting this fight for every person in Illinois.
“We have all lost something today.”
Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said more deaths should be expected.
Pritzker said soon, the state will be able to conduct up to 2,000 tests per day.
He said the National Guard would have an increased presence in the state to help, medically, and his administration was looking at all potential measures moving forward in an effort to flatten the curve. He specifically mentioned measures like the ones being taken in China and San Francisco.
The total number of cases in Illinois increased to 422 in 22 counties, up from Wednesday’s 288 in 17.
