PEORIA, Ill. — With sanitizer becoming a hot commodity during these coronavirus times, one local pharmacy is stepping up its game.
Preckshot Compounding Pharmacy has added to its product line a hand sanitizer made in-house.
Owner Corey Dolan explained how he got the go-ahead.
“Due to the fact this pandemic was declared a national emergency by President [Donald] Trump, the Food and Drug Administration went ahead and issued guidance those available to compound and make sanitizer available, to go ahead and do it,” he said.
“Then we got with our state inspectors, and asked for special permission, and they had to contact the Department of Public Health to actually get that cleared.”
Co-owner A.J. Roseboom said the sanitizer is made using a World Health Organization-approved and FDA-recommended formula.
“They’ve been proved to be effective and also not to hurt somebody,” Roseboom said.
“The only thing we’ve done is either removed scents or added a little scent to it just to make it a more pleasant product to use, and added a little moisturizer to it for the skin.
“Those are just minor little things that were part of their options, and we wanted to make the best formula possible while also being effective.”
Dolan said per governmental rules, it’s for a limited time only.
“This is something I’ve never seen in my lifetime. As long hand sanitizer is not available or very underavailable, we’ll be able to do this.”
Dolan said once the commercial market supply catches up to the public demand, small busineses like his will be ordered to halt production.
