WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) is encouraging middle and high school students across Illinois’ 17th Congressional District to participate in the 2026 Congressional App Challenge, a nationwide competition that inspires students to explore coding, computer science, and innovation by creating original applications.
The an annual competition hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives to help foster STEM education and encourage the next generation of technology leaders. Students can compete individually or in teams of up to four and may submit apps designed for mobile devices, websites, desktop computers, tablets, or other platforms.
“Technology is shaping our future, and we need young people from every corner of our district to see themselves as the innovators and problem-solvers of tomorrow,” said Congressman Eric Sorensen. “Whether you’re an experienced coder or just getting started, the Congressional App Challenge is an opportunity to learn new skills, showcase your creativity, and make a difference through technology.”
The challenge is open to all middle and high school students who either live in or attend school in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District. The winning app will be eligible for display in the U.S. Capitol, and its creators will be invited to participate in the annual House of Code celebration in Washington, D.C.
Registration for the 2026 Congressional App Challenge is now open. Student submissions are due by October 26, 2026.
