PEORIA, Ill. – The education app Canvas, used by schools, colleges and universities across the country, was hacked on Thursday.
The application is used for posting grades, class materials, assignments and exams.
WMBD Radio News reached out to Bradley University and Illinois Central College, which both use the app, regarding the outage Friday morning.
University Spokesperson Libby Derry said Bradley University was impacted by the worldwide Canvas outage that occurred Thursday between 3:30 and 9:30 p.m.
“During that time, the university remained in continuous communication with students, faculty, staff, and campus stakeholders to provide updates and guidance as information became available.
While the outage created temporary disruption for some instructional activities, faculty were encouraged to work directly with students to address any impacted exams, assignments, or presentations based on the individual needs of their courses.
Canvas service has since been restored, and final exams and end-of-semester activities are proceeding as planned.”
Illinois Central College has yet to respond.
