PEORIA, Ill. – The City of Peoria presented a proclamation commemorating the placement of a Centennial Time Capsule at the City Council meeting earlier this week.
The time capsule will be placed into the cornerstone of City Hall next Tuesday, May 5.
Peoria Strategic Communications Manager Stacy Peterson says one item to be placed will connect the city’s past, with its future.
“One of the artifacts that was in the 1897 time capsule was a Buckeye, placed there by John Ryan in 1897. This specific, tangible connection to the past, is a tradition that we are carrying forward into the next time capsule,” Peterson says.
The Centennial Time Capsule is designated to be opened in 2126.
The public is invited to attend the sealing of the time capsule—Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at City Hall.
