SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias says some people got a little too creative this year with custom license plates.
In a video posted on Monday, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias released the 20-25 rejected license plate list.
He says more than 55,000 requests were made this year, with more than 550 denied for either being profane or inflammatory.
Giannoulias says some of the names have been banned because they were deemed inflammatory or offensive. Some of 2025’s more notable rejections include BBL, BDASMOM, BLUBALN, BRICKED, IBPOOPN, ICUP, PRIUSSY, SNDNUDZ, SYBAU and TYPESHT.
“Illinoisans consistently show off their creativity on customized license plates, but anything that hits the road has to meet the standards of good taste and decency,” Giannoulias said.
He adds that others, such as OOQQOO, are banned because they could confuse law enforcement and pose safety concerns.
The Secretary of State’s Office says there are now more than 8,500 combinations on the banned list.
