Peoria, Ill — A 15-year-old boy is identified as the latest victim of homicide and gun crime in Peoria. He is the 26th murder victim in the city this year. He is the third murder victim just this month.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood released the news late Sunday. The victim’s name was Rayton Brock, of West Nevada Street.
Police officers found him unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds in a neighborhood along North California Avenue and East Illinois Street Friday night. The ShotSpotter alert went out to police at 7:17 p.m.
The coroner’s office says Brock likely died within minutes of being shot.
Despite that, the night of the shooting, doctors and nurses at OSF St. Francis Medical Center exhausted all efforts to save the teen. He was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m.
Police did not immediately release details about a suspect in the case. The investigation is considered ongoing.
According to the Peoria Journal Star, previously, the highest number of homicides for the city in the modern era (the last 30 years) occurred in 2019, when there were 25 killings in the city.
