PEORIA, Ill. – Two of Peoria’s leading manufacturers are slated to lose federal funding for energy projects as a result of the government shutdown.
17th District Democratic Congressman Eric Sorensen of Moline says more than $2.5 million to Komatsu is planned to be canceled, and adds Caterpillar could lose more than $3.2 million.
In a statement, Sorensen says the money was previously approved and funded by Congress, and calls the move to cancel funds a “political stunt.”
““This isn’t about saving taxpayer dollars. The funding was already approved. This is about politics, plain and simple, and our families will pay the price,” Sorensen said.
Last week, White House Budget Director Russ Vought announced the cancellation of close to $8 billion in climate-related funding in 16 U.S. States.
