PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called to a wooded area in the 2800 block of W. Reservoir Boulevard Saturday afternoon on reports of a brush fire spreading close to some nearby homes.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Waldron said crews arrived around 4:45 p.m., finding a large fire just off the Reservoir sidewalk on the north side of the street.
Firefighters used multiple handlines and cut down an extensive amount of brush to contain the fire to a half-acre. Crews were able to keep it from spreading to any residential properties.
Crews remained on the scene for over an hour soaking the area to prevent further spread as well as any future incidents.
This is one of multiple brush fires that have happened over the last week due to extreme drought conditions across Central Illinois. The fire serves as a reminder to be extra cautious during this time of drought.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No residential property was damaged in the fire.
