PEORIA, Ill. – The man accused of shooting two people in downtown Peoria early Sunday morning, which led to chaos with a hostile crowd and police, must stay in jail.
25 News reports 29-year-old Adrian Morris was ordered held at a detention hearing on Friday.
Morris is charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
Prosecutors allege that surveillance video shows Morris leaning against a car with the two victims nearby, before firing a gun twice and hitting both.
A 24-year-old male was left in critical condition after a gunshot wound to the chest, while another victim went to a hospital via private vehicle.
Morris claimed self-defense, but the video does not show the victims with weapons. Defense attorneys listed positives in Morris’ life at the hearing; such as employment, taking care of his children, and working towards a GED.
Associate Judge Nathan Bach ruled that Morris was a threat to the community, and called the shooting a “pretty brazen act.”
