PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria’s Duck Race for the Center for Prevention of Abuse is one of the longest-running races of its kind…and it’s back this weekend.
This is the event’s 37th year.
“As we have the last two years, we are trying to sell 35,000 ducks for the race, so that people can have the opportunity to support a great cause,” says the Center’s Chief Executive Officer Carol Merna.
On Wednesday, there were just under 5,000 ducks left. Each duck helps provide free services for victims of abuse, human trafficking, and violence prevention programs.
Merna says the ducks are very easy to buy.
“The easiest way to do it is to go online to duckracepeoria.com, you can use a credit card and you’re welcome to buy as many ducks as you’d like (while they last),” Merna says.
The “owner” of the first duck to cross the finish line wins $10,000 cash. There are 15 prizes total.
The 37th annual Duck Race is being held at East Peoria’s Eastside Centre Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last year’s event raised over $215,000 for survivors of abuse in our communities, and all 35,000 ducks were sold.
