BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (25 News) – A former president of the State Farm Holiday Classic has been indicted by a McLean County grand jury, accused of stealing from the tournament.
25 News reports Kyle Myers, 39, of Normal is charged with one count of felony theft.
Myers is accused of stealing between $100,000 and $500,000 from Classic Tournament Inc. between April 2022 and July 2024.
Current tournament president Kurt Gibson released a statement in January saying the nonprofit notified law enforcement about “suspected unauthorized, inappropriate or fraudulent transactions resulting in the loss of significant tournament revenue over a two-year time frame.”
Myers appeared in court Friday and pleaded not guilty.
Myers was released from jail pending trial because the theft charge is non-detainable under Illinois’ SAFE-T Act.
If convicted, Myers could be sentenced to 4-to-15 years in prison and/or probation.
A pretrial conference is scheduled Sept. 24.
The Stare Farm Holiday Classic is one of the nation’s largest high school basketball tournaments.
