PEORIA, Ill – A concept of “Tiny Homes’ to shelter the homeless was discussed this week by the Peoria City Council.
One supporter of such a project is 3rd District Councilman Tim Riggenbach.
“It’s very doable,” Riggenbach said.
But, Riggenbach tells WMBD’s “The Phil Luciano Show” one of the obvious questions haunting the project right now is where to put them.
The Dream Center has proposed such a village and Riggenbach says its needs – need to be considered.
“As (the Dream Center} enhances its services in downtown Peoria that want to build what’s called a Day Center,” Riggenbach said. “Because if you’re in a small, “tiny home” you’re not going to want to stay in there all day. You need to get out.”
Riggenbach said wherever the project is located this should be a special use project.
“By having special use, it has to go through a public hearing process,” Riggenbach said. “And by going through this public hearing process, we can say, ‘You have to have landscaping around these tiny homes. You can’t just be on a parking lot.’”
