PEORIA, Ill. – Two Peoria-area small businesses have joined a club of being some of the best in the state of Illinois.
Tres Rojas Winery of Washington and Sarah Beth’s Homemade Dips of Hanna City received their Illinois Made Makers awards Tuesday morning at a ceremony at Distillery Labs in downtown Peoria.
The two were part of 20 honored in the state this year, with only seven receiving the honor outside of the Chicagoland area.
Tres Rojas co-owner Lisa Barry says receiving the Illinois Made Makers award will help the business grow and share their wines more broadly.
“We really are hoping that this is one of those jump off points that lets people know that there’s some great quality stuff happening here,” Barry said.
Tres Rojas started in 2016 in Pekin and Morton, then expanded into 51 acres in Washington with event spacing and a tasting bar.
Sarah Masters says she started experimenting with dips around 20 years ago when trying to recreate her mother’s dill dip recipe, and the business grew from there.
“Food brings people together, and I guess we have a small part in doing that,” Masters said.
Masters hopes winning the award can inspire other small businesses to pursue their dreams.
