PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria-area’s Republican representative in Congress is seeking another term in Washington.
16th District Congressman Darin LaHood of Dunlap launched his re-election bid on Tuesday for the 2026 midterms.
In a statement, LaHood says he’s “proud” of the results delivered for the district, which he says includes lower taxes, and standing up to foreign threats such as China.
LaHood says he was “humbled” for the encouragement to pursue a statewide office next year. But says his focus is finishing the work President Trump and House Republicans have promised the American people, which includes national security, growing the economy, and advancing Trump’s “America First” agenda.
“I am confident that our work both in Washington and throughout our district will continue to advance these priorities and deliver real results for the families, farmers, and job creators who call Illinois home, ” LaHood said.
Democrats Paul Nolley and Joe Albright have announced campaigns for the 16th District seat.
In the other Peoria-area Congressional district, Republican Dillian Vancil of Monmouth has announced a bid for the 17th District, while incumbent Democrat Eric Sorensen has yet to officially announce his re-election campaign.
