CHILLICOTHE, Ill. – Nothing says Central Illinois more than sweet corn, and Chillicothe has turned it into a full-blown celebration. The city turned its downtown Thursday Corn Boil into the Chillicothe Sweet Corn Festival, which was held Saturday at City Park.
25 News reports last year, people in the community told city leaders they wanted more time with vendors, more music, and a longer event. Now, the city has devoted a whole Saturday for the festival, featuring live performances, activities for kids, and locally grown sweet corn to eat.
There was a large turnout, with people lined up around the block to get their sweet corn.
“We’re already working on next year, isn’t that wonderful? We’ve had some great feedback of having some antique tractors, that’s going to be part of our show next year, and we have some increased vendor interest,” said Amanda Beadles, the city’s economic development director.
Next year’s event is expected to be the fourth Saturday of July.
