SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The state is reporting what it says is a record high in nonfarm payroll jobs in June.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security announced Thursday that 9,400 jobs were added in June, to a total of 6,175,200. The IDES says the total surpasses the previous high set in March.
The biggest month-to-month increases include the Government and Private Education and Health Services sectors, while the biggest decreases were seen in Leisure and Hospitality and Manufacturing.
The unemployment rate fell 0.2% to 4.6% in June, with the IDES saying it’s the first monthly decrease since February and the lowest since August 2023.
The IDES says 307,300 people were unemployed, down 3.5% from the prior month.
