PEORIA, Ill. – Wednesday July 16th is Glioblastoma Awareness Day…a day dedicated to spreading awareness about the highly aggressive and fatal brain cancer.
Washington Community High School Basketball Coach Kevin Brown was diagnosed with the disease in the summer of 2018, and passed away almost a year later.
His wife Jodi Brown, who heads up the KB Strong Foundation, is teaming up with OSF HealthCare for an event at OSF’s Cancer Care Center Wednesday night.
“Really the whole thing is just community…bringing people together who have either been affected by Glioblastoma, or are very impassioned about the fight against it, and getting support…but then also hopefully creating hope,” Brown says.
Jodi Brown tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan”, the open house that begins at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, will include updates on Glioblastoma from Neurosurgeon Dr. Andrew Tsung and an opportunity to ask questions.
“We’re going to have a lot of our Warriors and HEROES (family and friends affected by Glioblastoma) here in our area or just regionally, but then the other side is we want people (to come) that want to know more about it,” Brown says.
Jodi Brown says her goal is to make the KB Strong Foundation a national resource for people diagnosed with Glioblastoma and their families.
KB Strong’s “Brownfest” fundraiser is also coming up September 6th at Countryside Banquet Center in Washington.
