PEORIA, Ill. – A teenager charged with First Degree Murder in the death of a toddler last week must remain in a Peoria County jail.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 18-year-old Amarian Billups-Wilson was ordered held in custody until trial at a detention hearing Monday.
Billups-Wilson is charged in connection to the death of 18-month-old Clylen Ewing on June 29th, and is also charged with Aggravated Battery for allegedly injuring a five-month-old he was also babysitting.
Clylen was found unresponsive and not breathing by Peoria Police in a home at Wiswall and Lincoln, and later died at a hospital. An autopsy revealed multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
Prosecutors say Clylen’s mother had left her four children in the care of Billups-Wilson the night before, with the children reportedly witnessing Billups-Wilson strike Clylen and the five-month-old.
Billups-Wilson reportedly admitted to hitting Clylen several times during police questioning, but claims he was unaware of how hard he was hitting him because he was allegedly intoxicated.
