PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Peoria County’s Sheriff is urging people to be careful with fireworks after an incident near Edwards on Tuesday night.
Three people were injured after a firework reportedly went off inside a car traveling on Route Eight at around 9:30 P.M.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says a 47-year-old man had a hand blown off as a result of the firework explosion, with a ten-year-old and a female also injured.
He tells WMBD’s “The Phil Luciano Show” that it’s the second time a hand has been lost to fireworks in the past couple weeks in the county.
“These things are not vetted by anybody. They come in from overseas, so you don’t know what you’re getting. So that’s why we stress to be careful when you’re handling these,” Watkins said.
Watkins says the 47-year-old man is potentially looking at criminal charges for the incident because a child was injured in the incident.
