PEKIN, Ill. – Nearly a dozen hot air balloons will be floating into the air this weekend at Pekin’s Dragon’s Fire Balloon Fest.
Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amy McCoy says they’ve been looking for a new event to bring people to Pekin.
“We thought what a great opportunity. We met with some different folks and came up with some different ideas, and a hot air balloon event was discussed and decided upon,” McCoy says.
There’ll be evening hot air balloon flights Friday night and Saturday night, as well as a pre-dawn flight early Saturday morning.
McCoy tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan Show” they’re encouraging everyone to come out and watch the balloons launch.
“It’s weather-dependent of course. And, then in the evenings there’ll be the glow as well…so we’re excited about that,” McCoy says.
The “glow” is when the balloons are tethered and lit up at night…creating a spectacular show.
The Dragon’s Fire Balloon Fest is a free event that will include music, kids activities, food and beer trucks…all at the Avanti’s Event Center.
