PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters rescued a woman and five pets from a fire Thursday night.
When crews arrived around 7:15 p.m. in the area of Orchard and Derby, they found heavy smoke and fire showing from the home.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Martin says within a few minutes of their arrival, firefighters helped the woman out of the home. She was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not available. Five dogs were saved from the fire and were given oxygen. The dogs are being cared for by Peoria County Animal Protection Services.
The fire was put out quickly. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. Damage to the home is estimated at $100,000.
No firefighters were injured at the scene.
