PEORIA, Ill. – The Center for Prevention of Abuse is getting ready for their 37th Annual Duck Race this summer.
Ducks for the race are on sale now through race day in August.
Ducks can be “adopted” online at duckracepeoria.com, by phone at 308-691-0551, by mail at P.O. Box 3855, Peoria, Illinois 61612, or at select locations throughout Central Illinois.
Each duck costs $5.00. Every duck adopted helps the Center for Prevention of Abuse provide critical services to survivors of abuse and violence, as well as violence prevention education in Central Illinois.
“The Duck Race is more than just a fun tradition – it’s a lifeline for the people we serve,” says Carol Merna, CEO of the Center for Prevention of Abuse. “For 37 years, this event has helped fuel our mission to provide free, confidential services to survivors of abuse and violence. Every duck adopted makes a significant impact. We are asking our supporters near and far to rally with us, make a splash, and help us reach our goal of selling all 35,000 ducks!”
The annual duck race will take place on Saturday, August 23 at EastSide Centre in East Peoria. On Race Day, 35,000 ducks will race down a giant water slide for a chance to win one of 15 prizes. The grand prize will win $10,000, with $5,000 awarded to second place and $2,500 awarded to third place. Other prizes include jewelry, electronics, gift cards, and more. Winners do not need to be present to win.
On Race Day, festivities will begin at 11 a.m. at EastSide Centre, with music, food trucks, inflatables, face painting, and fun for families. The race starts at 1 p.m.
The Center for Prevention of Abuse’s Duck Race is one of the longest-running duck races in the country. 100-percent of the proceeds from duck sales supports CFPA’s programs and services, including an emergency shelter, safety planning, counseling, therapy, legal and medical advocacy, prevention education, and more.
