PEORIA, Ill. – Brand spanking new equipment for the Peoria Fire Department.
A $3.2-million firetruck purchased by the City of Peoria will replace an aging Truck 1. The purchase included two engines and the truck itself.
The new truck was designed and built to the department’s needs with the help of the Peoria Fire Department Spec Committee.
“Anytime you have aging apparatus, more times than not, they’re out of service for maintenance and repairs,” Peoria Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger told 25 News. “With new apparatus, it pushes us into a space where the frontline equipment is in service more often.”
Industry standards call for trucks to last five to 10 years, but Sollberger said, with rising costs, the new truck will most likely be with the department for about 20 years.
The old truck will be sold at auction.
