PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria City Council this week rejected liquor licenses for two businesses, including one that was looking to offer alcohol delivery only.
GoPuff, already has 300-plus locations nationwide including in Chicago and Champaign, and would have been based in the 3400 block of North University.
District Four Councilman Andre Allen says the home base wouldn’t be that far from a certain university.
“We have a traditional four-year university here in town, Bradley,” said Allen. “What is the mechanism that is stopping someone from ordering alcohol to a house, not knowing who’s all inside of that house, and now you are inadvertently contributing to underage drinking?”
GoPuff’s attorney says delivery drivers are properly trained under Illinois law and don’t get paid by the delivery, so there’s no incentive for them to make illegal deliveries.
That liquor license, and one for TequilaRia on North Knoxville were both denied.
