PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighters were called just before 5 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 500 block of Homestead Avenue.
Crews made their way through the front door and found the home’s stove and kitchen cabinets on fire. The fire was under control in a matter of minutes.
The walls and ceiling behind and above the stove were breached to check for extension. The house was ventilated, then the residents were allowed to go back into the home to retrieve their belongings.
Fire Battalion Chief Michael Hughes said the house was turned back over to the the landlord who stated he would be providing temporary housing for the residents.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
A fire investigator said the cause of the fire was accidental.
