TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill. – More details have been released about Wednesday night’s fatal accident in rural Tazewell County.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley has identified the victim of the crash as Craig Chione, 44, of Morton.
Hanley says Chione’s vehicle was westbound on Queenwood Road when he lost control, struck a combine travelling eastbound, and then a ditch.
Eyewitnesses said they saw flames and smelled smoke in the air, and also noted police searching a corn field.
Hanley says toxicology tests are pending, but that the cause of death, so far, is complications due to thermal injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
