PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – The COVID-19 testing site at the Peoria Civic Center isn’t re-opening after all.
The Illinois Department of Public Health tells our news partner 25 News the site — which was supposed to reopen Monday and be operational four days a week — won’t be starting up again after closing in June.
The state claims a “miscommunication” after both the Tazewell and Peoria City/County Health Departments announced the reopening.
It’s not clear if any more testing sites will be made avaiable.
Peoria and Tazewell Counties are currently at what’s termed a “high” level of community transmission of COVID-19. As of Monday, Peoria County had 24,469 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 380 deaths. 23,848 cases have recovered. Tazewell County, as of Monday, had 18,414 total cases and 302 deaths. 17,584 cases have recovered.
