PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria-based publication could soon have its final edition.
WTVP’s “Peoria Magazine” will print its last issue in November.
“We know Peoria Magazine created a niche for itself in the central Illinois media scene. The feedback we received from the community was consistently positive,” said interim WTVP Station Manager Julie Sanders. “Unfortunately, our current fiscal situation is such that we need to take this action.”
The decision comes in the wake of $1.5 million in budget cuts announced earlier this month, that also included nine people being laid off. In a statement, WTVP does not anticipate further staff cuts.
Financial concerns with the public television station under the leadership of former CEO Lesley Matuszak have been raised in the past couple months. Those concerns included more oversight of Matuszak from the station’s Board of Directors.
Matuszak resigned as CEO on September 27th, and was found dead in her home the next day.
