PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man will continue to be held in jail prior to trial on charges connecting him to the city’s 19th homicide of the year.
While bond is no longer set under the state’s SAFE-T Act, court records indicate a judge Monday ordered Amorta Nelson, 25, to remain held in the Peoria County Jail.
An arraignment is scheduled for November 16th, but it’s possible a grand jury could file new charges before then.
Nelson was arrested on the murder charge this past Friday. Prosecutors say he was seen in a surveillance video shooting Antonio Hardy, 33, outside a gas station near Sheridan and McClure September 18th.
Hardy was pronounced dead at a Peoria hospital.
In an unrelated case, Nelson faces a count of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and he is scheduled to be arraigned there October 25th.
