PEORIA, Ill. – The attempts to stop crime in Peoria didn’t stop with a press conference Thursday, or with the two homicides Thursday morning.
That’s according to a new message posted on Facebook by Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria.
“Last (Thursday) night our SWAT team along with the ATF and the US Attorney’s Office executed several search warrants throughout the city,” said Echevarria. “Those search warrants resulted in several guns, ammunition, and other evidence being seized.”
Echevarria doesn’t say if any arrests were made.
He says investigations into reported school threats have also been done.
“There have also been numerous social media posts about threats to our schools. I want to reassure you that we have investigated these threats and at this point none of the threats that we have seen are credible,” said Echevarria. “Our schools are some of the safest places for our kids to be at.”
The chief says investigations will continue, and arrests will be made when warranted.
Echevarria also said a message he’s given before during other outbursts of violence.
“…if that is something you want to do, you have three options: don’t commit the crime, get out of the city, or go to jail,” said Echevarria.
