PEORIA, Ill. – Drought is decreasing in the Peoria-area.
Thursday’s update from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows that all of Peoria and Woodford Counties, and nearly all of Tazewell County are at moderate drought conditions. Only 0.1% of Tazewell in the southwestern portion is in severe drought conditions.
The week prior, Peoria County was at near-moderate levels of drought, while around 25% of Woodford County and about 68% of Tazewell County was at severe drought levels.
Surrounding counties are still experiencing severe drought conditions. Those include around 27% of Fulton County, about 35% of Marshall County, and more than 40% of Stark County.
In Illinois, about 83% of the state is experiencing at least moderate drought conditions, down 1% from the week prior. The more severe drought conditions are in the northern portions of the state.
