PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — Neighbors may have saved a family of six Wednesday night after seeing flames shooting from the home next door.
The fire sent five agencies to the scene of a normally quiet area in Norwood.
Firefighters were called to N. Arrow Avenue, close to Norwood Pub-N-Grub, just after 8 p.m. for an RV, garage and home on fire. Winds spread the fire into trees, across the street and even in the ditches.
Limestone Fire Chief Dale Hoerr said six family members were inside watching TV when the homeowner said they heard someone banging on their door to warn them about the flames.
The homeowner told 25 News they never met the neighbors who alerted his family to the danger.
All of the structures were a total loss, along with ATV’s and other outdoor items. Four family cats were still unaccounted for Wednesday night.
It’s unclear what caused the fire, but the homeowner believes it started in the garage.
The Red Cross was called in to help the family of two adults and four children who lived in the home.
