PEKIN, Ill. — Reditus Labs in Pekin is reporting that 95% of positive COVID-19 tests they processed in a sequencing run on July 29 were the Delta variant.
Reditus Labs CEO Dr. Aaron Rossi said on Monday, “The Delta variant has clearly become the dominant strain out of our positive samples.”
Those samples were collected from July 2-27. Of 367 samples tested, there were 347 positive samples containing the Delta variant. Thirty were from Bloomington-Normal, 23 were from Peoria, 25 were from Rockford, 29 were from Champaign-Urbana, and 100 were from Metro East St. Louis.
Dr. Rossi said the Delta variant is of concern because it has shown to be “potentially more contagious and may have potential resistance to vaccines.”
