PEORIA, Ill. — More details have been released surrounding the officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning near Taft Homes.
According to Sgt. Amy Dotson, the officer observed a large fight near the intersection of Adams St. and Green St. near Taft Homes when he pulled up to the scene in his vehicle.
After getting out of his vehicle, he was immediately shot at. The officer was hit in the lower right leg and moved back into his squad car to take cover from more shots.
Once the gunfire stopped, the officer began to run towards the direction the shots were fired from.
While at the scene, the officer found a civilian, 33-year-old Tyrell Logan, who had been shot. That victim eventually left the scene and went to a hospital in their private vehicle.
The officer hit by gunfire was taken to a hospital when more officers arrived on scene.
After talking with numerous witnesses on the scene, Peoria Police were able to get a description of the suspect.
Peoria Police later found that Logan, who had taken himself to the hospital, matched the description of the suspect.
He was taken into custody and sent to Peoria County Jail. Logan was charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Reckless Conduct, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Mob Action, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon.
